Iowa Library Association Conference 2026

Learn how to run effective information campaigns designed to inspire your patrons to take action on behalf of your library, without spending money on consultants or violating public advocacy laws.

Attendees will learn to develop a core message for their campaign, to use ILS data and voter files to target their messages by demographic, to develop a compelling brand for their marketing campaign, to leverage community partners to advocate on their behalf, to know the line between informing and advocating, and to turn everyday patrons into library advocates.

Discover how nonfiction and fiction picture books can be used as springboards for STEAM programming that's fun, doable, and budget-friendly. Dig into the science behind stories and find ways to engage children of all ages and interests with hands-on activities. Picture book-inspired, STEAM-based programming fuels curiosity, facilitates literacy and fosters a love of learning.

Public libraries play a vital role in equitable access, and this session introduces services and practical, easy-to-implement strategies for connecting patrons with the programs and accessible resources offered by the Iowa Library for the Blind and Print Disabled.

Attendees will: 
 1. Understand eligibility and core services of the Iowa Library for the Blind and Print Disabled.
2. Explore program ideas that promote accessibility and inclusion.
3. Identify ways to connect patrons with accessible reading formats and assistive technology.

Join ILA President Brittany Jacobs and Vice President Jillian Aschliman as they provide an in-depth look at the work ILA does for Iowa Libraries, the vision for the organization's future, and how our members' involvement can help further advance ILA's mission.

Attendees will have a better understanding of the inner workings of the organization, the work ILA does for Iowa libraries each year, and gain better insight into the difference between what our organization offers vs. the resources provided by the State Library.

A Silent Book Club® is a low-cost, relaxed program that brings readers together for quiet shared reading while fostering community engagement, building business partnerships, and creating opportunities for collaboration with other libraries.

Attendees will come away with tools and ideas needed to develop their own local Silent Book Club®. Marketing resources will be shared to assist others with creating their own local branding, while also using the official Silent Book Club® marketing tools.
